Today the Deccan Chargers team lost their sixth game in seven games, but Steyn did not let it go easily. After the Deccan batsmen failed on a bowler friendly pitch, the Mumbai Indians had an easy target in hand. But coming back from the disastrous performance with the bat against the high scoring Delhi game, there batsmen struggled against Steyn deliveries.
But the wankhede stadium was helping the seamers a lot. Rohit troubled the Deccan openers and Malinga grabbed four wickets. Some bad selection of shots by Deccan players gave wickets to non seamers such as Harbajan. Nevertheless for Visitors the only dependable and experienced bowler who could exploit this condition was Dale Steyn.
True to this experience he was bang on the target in each of his delivery. Noting that his team had a low score to defend, Steyn first ball uprooted the stumps of Mumbai Opener Richard Levi. Then the highest score of today match, Rohit Sharma, escaped Steyn deliveries four times in row. Each time the ball beat the outside edge. When Steyn returned in ninth over, his second culprit of the day was Dinesh Karthik. Karthik was caught being by the wicketkeeper.
Steyn four over’s gave away only ten runs while he got two wickets. Definitely each team had its own strategy. Probably Mumbai Indians management did not want their batsmen to get our trying to hit Steyn deliveries. Each of Steyn balls were in right areas and pushed the batsmen backward. The pressure built by his deliveries did not let the home team chase 101 easily.
Definitely Deccan Chargers captain would have hoped he had some more Steyn quality bowlers in his team than the victory would have belonged to Deccans. Well, still lots of matches are pending in IPL5. With the confidence of player like Steyn, it remains to be seen when Deccan Chargers fight a collective battle against their opposition in all departments of the game. Steyn was the well deserved man of the match, for keeping the enthusiasm in this low scoring match.
Dale Steyn makes games with the Deccan Chargers worth watching!
