Chennai Super Kings have done it again. They have outplayed the league topper Delhi daredevils by 86 runs to make it to their 4th IPL final. In this very important match, though Chennai struggled to make it to top four, their performance in match against Mumbai and Delhi has been remarkable. Dhoni and Co have performed when it was needed the most at crucial stages.

Today match was important to both the team. But the biggest blunders seem to have been done by Delhi management when they decided to rest Morkel and give a chance to debutant off spinner. Nevertheless Chennai emerged victorious with a credible performance while delhi catch a flight back home due to poor performance after dominating in the league matches.

Chennai attacked the weakened the delhi bowling attack all round setting up the highest total of the season. More than 50% run of the total was contributed by centurion Murali Vijay who woke up from a bad patch in a very important game. Vijay made his intentions clear right from the first ball when Sehwag decided to give the ball to debutant spinner. First two balls were hammered for four. Both h**** and Vijay provided a solid foundation. But it was Vijay who was in terrific form while on other side of the wicket Chennai did have some cameo performance.

For example Dhoni and Bravo played a quick fire innings. Though their score looked small, both of them scored more than 2 runs a ball in the end to set up a challenging total of 222 run.  None of the delhi bowlers had an answer for Chennai attack. Only six run were given in extras. Sehwag, Gupta and Aaron gave a total of 131 runs in 8 over’s.  Debutant Gupta who was chosen ahead of Morkel gave away 47 runs in 3 over’s. It was told during the breaks that Sehwag wanted to strengthen his batting hence he chose this strategy. But if Sehwag wanted to do that then he should have chosen to bat after winning the toss rather than field.

Needing a massive target, Delhi captain decided not to open the batting for the first time this season. Jayawardene and Warner opened the innings. But by the fourth over the captain and Warner were back in the pavilion. Vijay took a nice catch to dismiss Warner while Hussey took a great catch of Sehwag. Chennai fielders had great commitment on the field compared to 2 catch drops by Delhi fielders. Delhi have raised lot of eyebrows in last two important matches.

Though Mahela Jayawardene anchored the Delhi inning with 38 ball 55 runs, it was not enough. Except Taylor none of the other Delhi batsmen could handle the Chennai bowling attack and Delhi were all out within 17 over’s. A very bad performance by Delhi in last two games compared to their league matches. Delhi lost by a big margin of 86 runs and Chennai are in the finals. Switch on your TV on Sunday May 27 for the big match between first time IPL finalist Kolkata and Defending Champions Chennai. Great game is on the offering. With the way Chennai has been performing, my favorite to win the finals is Chennai Super Kings.
