Punjab team has been knocked out of IPL 2012 with loss to Delhi Daredevils by 6 wickets. Today’s loss for the host can be majorly attributed to batting failure as they could not set up a big total in front of table topper Delhi. The visitors started the chase of 142 runs pretty well. The visitors got 10 runs of first over and 44 runs of first six overs. The pace at which delhi batsmen scored was a big contrast compared to the struggling Punjab batsmen.

Daredevils opening batsmen Warner performance underscored the belief that the wicket will assist seamers. In other words the Punjab bowlers could not utilize conditions of the green pitch well. Warner scored a qu.ick fire 79 of 44 balls with 10 boundaries and four sixes. When warner was out, just 29 runs were needed of 7 overs. Warner batting made the chase look much easy for Delhi.

Other delhi opener Chand especially utilized the opportunity presented to him in last two matches due to Sehwag absence well. He was not the star in today’s innings as his international partner was ambushing the Punjab bowlers. But his performance under pressure situations, definitely offer another great player for Indian cricket

Warner was hit by a bouncer from Ryan Harris. But he still continued. Another lifeline he got when at mid wicket the fielder could not hold on to a catch in an over where he hit 3 sixes and a boundary off Parvinder Awana. Earlier put into bat after loosing the toss, Punjab openers collapsed in a must win match.

Daredevils opening duo of Morne Morkel and Umesh Yadav utilized the bowling conditions well. They were literally unplayable with the new ball. But some good knocks by down the order ensured Punjab put up a challenging total of 141 in a green pitch. But Delhi got off to a flying start and knocked out the hosts.

Punjab team biggest problem this season had been their inconsistent performance. Their whole fate was dependent on last 2 matches against big opponents. They lost their last war to Delhi. Hats off to Delhi who so far seem to be looking like hot favorites for trophy. Even with the absence of sehwag Delhi has done well today. A good match today for Delhi bowlers who came out in flying colors after last match performance.
