Dwayne smith stars in the last league match of IPL 2012

The west indies all rounder teamed up with tendulkar and smashed the required runs with still 11 balls remaining. On a pitch where 162 looked like a competitive score to defend smith attacking game took away the match from dravid and co.

Having played earlier for other IPL teams, smith is an experienced player in IPL circuit. But Mumbai Indians have not yet finalized there opening pair. Today they tried smith and tendulkar. Smith got to his job right from the first over by lofting the fifth ball of first over over the fence.

Smith innings was filled with fours and sixes compared to the compassionate innings of tendulkar. Once he was on lot of his hits were in air and landed in no man area. While in some other balls he could not time them well. But shots which got timed they just blasted and crossed the rope easily. In 11th over he blasted 2 huge sixes. His third attempt to hit failed and offered a catch to the bowler which was missed. Probably the catch was taken, the match would had more interesting turns.

Today's day belonged to smith. His 10 boundaries and three sixes were highlights of Mumbai innings. Also the 58 ball 87 run was much faster compared to what is senior partner tendulkar was scoring. In the end it was a good batting practice for Mumbai openers. Smith was a well deserved man of the match award winner.

IPL 2012 has reached a stage now where every much must be won, if the title has to be grabbed. No doubt Mumbai are strong contenders. But with defending champions making it to the qualifying round, the next match will be crucial. Though chennai form has been questionable they have the potential to upset harbajan and co. Smith contribution in the upcoming will be valuable both with the ball and bat. Hope to see more match winning performances from the west indies cricketer.
