Last ball Win for Home Team - Rajasthan Lost the Chase Again

Rajasthan team delivered a good performance today but could not out play the home team till the last ball. Not sure what was going on in Rajasthan team plan, but for sure Rahane must be heart broken in not being able to finish the game.

Though Sehwag played some good shots and established an IPL record of four consecutive fifties, credit should be given to Rajasthan bowlers. According to the plan of their captain, they bowled in right areas and varied the space. Delhi batsmen looked troubled with this approach and except the captain none could attack the visitor’s bowlers. The last eight over’s were very economical for Visitors. If you remove the 20th over then the score would have been much lower. But the last over 20 runs finally turned to provide Delhi bowlers a good total to defend.

Rajasthan team started well. The openers Dravid and Rahane built a 99 run partnership. Dravid was out in 14th over thanks to a nice catch by Agarkar. When dravid departed royals needed 54 runs in 37 balls.  With an asking rate of around 9 runs per over, the presence of Rahane on crease was important for the royals.

With Hodge and Rahane on crease, this score did not look impossible to chase down for Visitors.  Both did well. With 15 runs needed of last 2 overs and 9 wickets in hand, Morkel was given the bowl. The 19th over turned out to be a turning point. Morkel gave away only three runs and claimed the wicket of Brad Hodge taking the match to final over.

Sehwag handed the ball to Umesh Yadav who had to defend 12 runs. On the crease was in form batsmen Ajinkya Rahane.  The first three balls fetched only 2 runs. But in the 4th ball Rahane hit the first six of the Royals innings, making the match more intense. With four more runs needed he tried to hit the 5th ball. But it was fielded well and Rahane managed to get 2 runs. Now two runs were needed in the last all.  Yadav kept the ball full and Rahane missed it well but ran anyway. However Shah was not quick enough and was stumped by the wicketkeeper, ending the tense match.

Rahane remained unbeaten on 84 and delhi won this exciting match by one run.  With this victory Delhi Team remain on top of the table. The distance between Delhi and other team is slowing widening. Well Done Sehwag and Co.
