Mumbai hold their nerves to maintain their winning Momentum Against CSK

An entertaining and a close second match for Mumbai team. After being put into bat by the home team captain, Chennai Batsmen performed well today compared to their earlier matches. Opener Vijay played some good shorts after starting cautiously. His 41 runs laid the foundation while dhoni, bravo did the remaining work. After the openers departed Raina and Bravo stabilized the visitor’s innings.  With Raina departure the captain came on the crease and along with Bravo accelerated the run rate.

For Mumbai team, the bowlers started well but could not keep a tab on the Chennai batsmen. Though none of the visitor batsmen could setup big individual score, but their individual contribution was enough to set up 173/8 on the board. Harbajan decided to keep the services of Malinga till the last over. This strategy paid off and Sri Lankan picked up two wickets of Chennai in 20th over.

Needing about 9 runs per over, Mumbai batting was opened by Tendulkar and Franklin.  Franklin departed early bringing Rohit on the crease. The stand of 126 runs between Tendulkar and Rohit set up the pace for Mumbai chase.  Tendulkar 44 balls 74 runs was ended by Ashwin. With Mumbai needing 38 more runs of 28 balls, the game looked in home team’s hand. But Karthik was clean bowled by Bravo after getting two boundaries. Then Dhoni introduced Ravindra Jadeja. He picked up two quick wickets of settled Rohit Sharma and rusty Rayadu giving Chennai the control.

The match ending in such a last ball finish must be a big surprise for Mumbai team management. But Dwayne Smith, playing his first game for Mumbai Indians this season, had his say in the final over. He hit three boundaries off the last-three balls to finally recover the hosts. Chennai bowler Hilfenhaus bowled a great first over and a costly last over. The last minute scramble after a century stand, means Mumbai win another close match. The previous low scoring match against Pune also tested the Mumbai team’s nerves. Well done Mumbai boys.
