Delhi Daredevils number three batsman Kevin Pietersen earned the man of the match award after an incredible match winning display. Pietersen almost single handedly lifted the Daredevils to a victory chasing down a total of 157 set by the Deccan Chargers. He struck 103 not out off of just 64 balls. No other batsman scored more than 23 in Delhi's innings.
Rarely in T20 has one batsman taken so much control as Pietersen did in this game. There was some feeling after the first innings that Morne Morkel or Shahbaz Nadeem could be candidates for the man of the match award after they took three wickets each and bowled extremely well. However, that suggestion was banished as Pietersen was forced to adapt to early wickets being lost.
That's what makes Pietersen's innings so special. He did it under the pressure of having to chase a tough target against what is genuinely a decent bowling attack. Dale Steyn stormed in and bowled well, but he could not dismiss Pietersen and the tall right hander absolutely punished the rest of the attack.
Pietersen's innings saved Delhi and that sort of performance should give this franchise a lot of encouragement as they moved forward. The domination has been there, the team effort has been there, and the Daredevils are also getting great match winning performances from their star players.
he has been in good form. a loss to Bangalore to loose such a nice batsmen.
