The home team Rajasthan outplayed their weak opponent Pune Warriors by 45 run keeping their hopes alive of making it to the next round.  The batting of Royals was fired up by Watson, while the bowling department was led by spinner Ajit Chandila(playing second match for Royals).

Chandila hat-trick, completely punctured the Pune chase leaving them to their eight consecutive defeat (IPL record). Sahara team not only has disheartened their fans, but also their decision of not experimenting with playing 11 despite non performance is surprising. In today’s match Ganguly decided to play after sitting out in previous match.

After winning the toss, dravid chose to bat. Most of the batting heroics of Royals was led by strokes of Watson followed by well guarded knock of Rahane. After the captain Dravid, departed early due to well caught one handed catch by the wicketkeeper, Watson came on the crease. Both Watson and Rahane set up a 94 run stand, which helped Royals to set up a challenging total of 170 runs.

Watson was at this best. He played comfortable shots hammering the bowlers, making Ganguly think ‘What to do?”. His 31 balls knock were studded with six fours and four sixes. Watson was out trying to play Nehra’s Yorker giving the much needed break for visitors. The Australian was out in 15th over and the remaining 5 over’s produced only 40 plus runs despite Rahane presence till last over. But in the end 170 runs was a big mountain for the Pune team to chase.

While batting, Pune team had a big task in hand. Dravid decided to hand the new ball to Chandila in a surprise move. The first four balls of the first over produced three runs. In the fifth ball Ryder decided to hit the slow ball, but he mistimed it and gave a catch to Shane Watson at mid on. But the batsmen had managed to exchange their position before the catch.

In the last ball of first over, Pune Captain tried to hit the next delivery launched by the Haryana newbie on the leg stump. But Royals wicketkeeper did some smart work to uproot the stumps before Ganguly could step back into the crease. Brilliant work by Shreevats Goswami and offcourse Chandila. In the second over, Pune managed to gather another eight run.

With a hat trick in sight, Chandilla bowled the first ball of third over. Utthapa came forward to hit the spin but was completely beaten on the drive giving an easy stump. IPL 2012 produced the first hat trick and a memorable match for the new bowler. In the fifth over, the hat trick bowled got another wicket finishing today’s match with figures of four for 13.  Pune never looked in the chase as none of the batsmen could establish the much needed partnership. In the end Royals won comfortably, thanks to an all round performance.
