Rajasthan team stamped their authority on home team Pune Warriors by 7 wickets at Subrata Roy Sahara Stadium in Pune. Needing 126 runs to win this Match, the visitors achieved their target with 22 balls remaining. Dravid and co will be delighted with their second consecutive win.
Coming to this match after a thumping win in last match, Rajasthan were hoping to perform better. Both Pune and Rajasthan needed this win to keep their chances alive of making it to the top four. After winning the toss, Pune Warriors batsmen could not threaten the discipline bowling attack of Rajasthan.
With an aim of putting up a fighting total, the captain decided to open the innings. But the the openers could not do much and there was another show of bad batting performance by the Pune team. Both Clarke and Ganguly struggled, mistimed and could hardly accelerate the run rate. The batsmen coming down the order also did not perform. It was a complete disaster with the batting lineup despite top names from international cricket. With hardly four boundaries in the whole innings, Pune needed a sensational bowling performance like Shaun Tait to defend a low total.
But Shane Watson innings pulled the steam out of Pune bowlers. Though Rahane departed on a duck while dravid went cheaply, Watson controlled the innings. Had Smith managed to hold on to a Watson catch, probably the match would have had a different fate. Watson hammered the lackluster Pune bowling. Ashish Nehra bowls were hit for two fours and a six bringing up Watson 50.
Watson contribution of 90 runs out of the 126 needed ensured that this match was a one sided match and not nail biting encounter as the low scoring Pune-Mumbai match was. With this loss, Ganguly men are almost out of the contention while Rajasthan move to fourth on points table. Dravid team will face Pune one more time before the top four spots are sealed. In the upcoming matches Ganguly boys will play for pride while royals will play to cement their place.
