The Caribean player, Dwayne Smith pulled the match from the jaws of defeat in debut match of IPL 5. The Mumbai team needing 173 runs to win the match started well after the loss of opener JEC Franklin. Rohit Sharma joined Tendulkar on the crease and both put on partnership of 126 runs. When the game looked as if I was going away from Chennai, suddenly wickets started falling on after the other. Chennai seemed to be getting an upper hand and it was another match which went on till last ball.
In final over sixteen runs were needed of six balls. Smith could manage only a single run of the first ball. In the next bowl, Malinga was cleaned bowled by Hilfenhaus. RP Singh joined smith on the crease and took a quick single on the third ball. It was a right decision by Singh to give the strike to Smith. With Smith on the crease, the game was still on.
With 14 runs needed of the last three balls, Smith hit a six, four and four to seal the win for the host. A great finish in last three balls of the game. Unfortunately Hilfenhaus who bowled a very good first over was at the receiving end in the last over today. Smith kept his calm in the crucial stages of the game to end Chennai Chances of win.
Hilfenhaus missed the Yorker and bowled a full length full toss. Smith hit it over the long on boundary. The next ball too was a full toss and this time Smith hit it over the bowlers head. The last ball of the innings was good but Smith waited in his crease and cleared the ropes. This has one of the best finishes in IPL game so far. Nobody would have expected it. But T20 is all about hitting and Smith proved to his IPL bosses the enormous talent that he possesses. Definitely a well deserved Man of the Match winner.
