Royal Challengers batsman Chris Gayle produced one of the performances of the tournament smashing 128 not out in Bangalore's crucial victory over the Delhi Daredevils. The game had huge playoff implications as the Royal Challengers took on a Daredevils team that had already qualified for the playoff phase of the competition.
When Virat Kolhi's side batted first, the captain would have had in mind his big star Gayle. Gayle had looked a little disinterested getting dismissed early in Bangalore's previous game against the Mumbai Indians.
However, he showed tremendous amounts of patience and discipline before absolutely destroying Delhi's bowling attack in the second half of Bangalore's innings. He hit an incredible 13 sixes as the usual dangerous pace attack options of the Daredevils were simply dismissed to all parts of the ground.
Gayle really has developed his twenty 20 batting strategy. He has shown a real desire to give himself a few balls and then follow up with incredible striking ability in the V. His batting in the game on Thursday was notable for the way in which he made some fairly established fast bowlers look extremely pedestrian on a track that had a bit of pace.
It's worth noting that Gayle was hardly batting slowly before he switched the gears on. Hitting 128 runs at more than two runs per ball is an incredible achievement. This is a player who is on fire. The other teams in the league will be hoping that Bangalore do not make the playoffs specifically because they will be afraid of the damage that he can do.
gayle IPL record and form has been tremendous. he is one player whose smashing hits will be missed the most since RCB could not qualify
