Lyndsay Carr commented on Veereswar Rao Ganti's blog post INDIAN CRICKET - NEED OF THE HOUR IS RETROSPECTION
"I believe that one of the major reasons for India's performance was the pre-tournament schedule. India seem to play more than any other country and leading up to the World Cup, they played an ODI series v Sri Lanka, an ODI and Test series v NZ,…"

Lyndsay Carr replied to Tariq Zaman's discussion WHAT WAS THE MAIN REASON THAT INDIA T20 WORLD CHAMPION HAS BEEN KNOCKED OUT OF THE TOURNAMENT?
"Was it a fluke that India beat England 5-0 in their 08-09 ODI series? Or beat Australia 2-0 for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy? Or became the first Indian captain to win an ODI series in NZ? I could continue, but I won't. The main reasons India was…"

"Can India win the t20 world cup this time? I’m worried to say the answer is ‘NO’. The reason I find is Indian captain. Dhony is not a 20/20 player, his aggression depends on the pitch and bowler. He comes to bat at over 7 or 8…"

Indian expectations, otherwise known as 'Tall Poppy Syndrome'

Posted on June 15, 2009 at 13:37 4 Comments

Reading some of the discussions and blog posts since India lost to England it struck me how alike Indians and Australians are when it comes to our sporting heroes. We build them up and build them up, but when they do something wrong, whether on the field or off, we rush to criticise. In Australia it's called the Tall Poppy Syndrome. We don't like anyone to get too big for their boots. There wasn't any criticism of Mahendra Singh Dhoni when he led his totally inexperienced team to the inaugural… Continue

Indian performance

Posted on June 14, 2009 at 18:26 3 Comments

Unfortunately I think India is pretty much out of the tournament. They should beat England today, but I can't see them beating South Africa. They haven't fired at all this tournament and leaving out RP Singh, by far the most successful bowler in the IPL, seems ridiculous. Irfan Pathan is primarily in the side as a bowler and he's been very ineffective. My line-up would be Gambhir, Rohit Sharma, Raina, Yuvraj, Dhoni, Yusuf Pathan, Dinesh Karthik, Harbhajan, RP, Zaheer and either Ishant or Ojha… Continue

Criticism of MS Dhoni

Posted on June 12, 2009 at 6:03 13 Comments

What's with all the criticism of MS Dhoni that was being tossed around yesterday? Have you got short memories or what? Let me remind you of what India has done under Dhoni's captaincy. Fact: Won 2007 T20 World Cup with a bunch of young guys, most of whom no-one had ever heard of, and who nobody expected would get anywhere. Fact: Beat Australia in Australia in the 2007-08 ODI competition, again without most of the big names. Fact: Beat Sri Lanka in two ODI competitions in Sri Lanka, which… Continue

Australia out of T20 World cup

Posted on June 9, 2009 at 14:58 8 Comments

I can't say I was surprised by Australi'a being knocked out of the tournament before the real games start. They are seriously struggling for an opening pair of the awesome talent of Hayden and Gilchrist, and if I were Cricket Australia, I would have swallowed my pride and sent out an SOS to Hayden once Symonds was sent home. I think Australia struggle with the T20 concept and I think they don't take it seriously. None of the team, with the exception of Lee and Warner played in the IPL. They… Continue

IPL 2009

Posted on May 24, 2009 at 8:04 0 Comments

This year's IPL has been interesting, but for me it's now over, as Chennai lost their semi. I look forward to next year's edition, hopefully back in India. And I hope Chennai dump Stephen Fleming as coach, I don't think they ever got the line-up right. Ntini should have been playing instead of Oram, to give them a better bowling attack. That's all for me this year. Go India in the T20 World cup!
