This edition of the IPL saw many young players leave an everlasting impression upon the minds of the spectators. The talent on show was of the top quality, be it batting, bowling or fielding. A lot was expected from the old timers but instead, the new guns took up the mantle to guide their franchisees to victory.
The past week in the IPL saw many wonderful chases. The last Sunday saw two exquisite matches being played between Mumbai and Chennai and then between Bangalore and Hyderabad. Sachin Tendulkar came back to form with a 74, Dwayne Smith’s first match in this IPL will be the most memorable, AB de Villiers’ re-established his reputation as the game’s premier finisher, Warner and Rohit Sharma hit crushing centuries and Shane Watson made a chase look very easy.
Match 49: Sachin…Continue
Quite an eventful week was the last week. There were 11 matches played in the week in which Kolkata displaced Delhi from the top by defeating them and the latter regaining the top spot against Deccan Chargers. Mumbai defeated Chennai in one of the most thrilling matches of this season. AB de Villiers showed why he is one of the best finishers in the game today with an extraordinary performance against Deccan Chargers. Chennai Super Kings managed to stay in the top 4 with a win over Delhi.…Continue
Whenever Rohit Sharma came in to bat in this edition in the IPL, each time the commentators used to comment about the abundance of talent in him. But almost each time, he didn’t do justice to his talent. In this match, he made use of the opportunity which came his way due to the dismissal of Sachin Tendulkar in the 3rd over. This was a perfect situation for him to get his eyes in and have ample time to produce an innings suiting his caliber. In the end, he remained unbeaten on 109…Continue

Rohit Sharma’s unbeaten 109 combined with 66 off 58 balls from Herchelle Gibbs sank Kolkata who could only manage 155 in reply. The total of 182 proved too much for Kolkata especially when Kolkata lost skipper Gautam Gambhir for a duck in the first over of the innings. Jacques Kallis and Yusuf Pathan, who came back to form with a promising 40 off 31 deliveries, tried to revive the innings with a steady stand in the middle of the innings, but in the end failed to overhaul the competitive…Continue
Rohit Sharma’s maiden IPL century as Herchelle Gibbs’ debut in this season saw Mumbai post a mammoth 182 for 1. Both the batsmen started off carefully after the early dismissal of Sachin Tendulkar, LBW to Shakib Al Hasan for 2 in the 3rd over. Gibbs scored three boundaries in Brett Lee’s first over with his trademark punch over the covers. Rohit Sharma also hooked a deliverey from Lee for six in the fourth over of the innings. He hit two more boundaries off Hasan’s over in the…Continue

The strange fixtures in the ongoing IPL have ensured that two top teams in Kolkata and Mumbai have not even played each other once yet. Kolkata are firmly placed second in the table, even displacing the mighty Delhi Daredevils once by defeating them at Kotla. Mumbai are currently at the fourth position and are a part of four similar teams who stand a chance to make it to the play-offs. The other teams in contention for a play-off berth are Chennai Super Kings, Rajasthan Royals and Kings XI…Continue
Sunil Narine was picked up by the Kolkata Knight Riders for $700,000 in the IPL player auction 2012 owing to his performance just in the series against India. There were of course some apprehensions about his performance in the IPL. He also chose IPL over the test and one day series against Australia at home. His performance in the IPL, from his very first match, has been exquisite.
In today’s match against the Sourav Ganguly led Pune Warriors india side in Kolkata, he showed his…Continue

Kolkata Knight Riders defeated Pune Warriors India by 7 runs in Kolkata. Pune Warriors India started off their chase in a disastrous fashion losing Michael Clarke in the second over when he was bowled by de Lange. Utthapa too departed in the fourth over, caught in the covers again off the bowling of de Lange. Manish Pandey holed out to long off when he tried to hoist an Iqbal Abdulla delivery. Mithun Manhas also departed in the next over. The only hope for Pune was in the form of Steven…Continue

When Sourav Ganguly returns to Kolkata in Pune Warrior’s jersey, it will be the time of limelight that Shahrukh Khan would not want. The Kolkata crowd, on the other hand, would love to see Dada in action against the team who decided to part ways with him. All Kolkata players continue to say that it will be just a match like the other fifteen they have to play this season but the fact that they are saying this reflects that there is definitely some talk in the camp about it.

Mahmood is the only Pakistani player playing in the IPL this season. It is because he’s not only Pakistani now; he is also a British citizen due to the amount of county cricket he has played in that country. The kings snapped him up in the 2012 player auctions due to his batting skills. He had to undergo a bit of visa hassles due to which he turned up late. But since his arrival, he has been instrumental with the ball.
His military medium place is deceptive. He bowls with an angle to…Continue
Kings XI Punjab produced an excellent all round show and a little scare at the end to defeat Royal Challengers Bangalore by 4 wickets in Bangalore. They first produced an exquisite bowling performance during the beginning and the end of their bowling. Then the top order of KXIP batted very well to comfortably overhaul Bangalore’s total.
Indians Mandeep Singh and Nitin Saini again proved that they are competent enough to score runs against any kind of opposition. Opening the innings,…Continue
Batting first, Royal Challengers Bangalore made 158-5. They started off cautiously opening with Mayank Agarwal and Chris Gayle. Praveen Kumar extracted swing from the new ball and gave only a single off the first over. Agarwal was dismissed in the next of Ryan Harris after being hit for a six. From then onwards, Gayle and Kohli took things forward with caution. They were surprisingly just 48 in 9 overs with stroke makers like Gayle and Kohli still at the crease.
They started their…Continue
The IPL’s points table has been so messy. Delhi Daredevils and Kolkata Knight Riders seem to have gained an edge with more wins, but the any of the next six teams can make the play-offs. The team winning today will displace Chennai Super Kings from the 4th position and occupy the place. Co-incidentally, both RCB and KXIP have 8 points in 9 matches.
Kings XI Punjab will be on a high after their last upset win over last year champions Chennai Super Kings in Chennai. After not…Continue
When the captain leads from the front, it is the top news in everybody’s minds. That has been so much associated with Sourav Ganguly, he still does it at times (remember Delhi vs Pune). But this time around, it was another Bengali, not by birth but by a franchise, to lead from the front. Gambhir had a quiet tournament till now with only a single fifty against Kings XI Punjab at Mohali. This was the perfect opportunity to get back into the runs. A game in Kolkata is just not a game for the…Continue
Kolkata, riding on support of the home crowd, defeated Bangalore by 48 runs. Royal Challengers Bangalore’s chase of the target, a mammoth 191, started disastrously when they lost opener Tilakratne Dilshan for 1 in the very first over bowled by Yusuf Pathan. Pathan may be a disappointment with the bat but has been consistently opening the bowling for KKR and picking up wickets. Virat Kohli and Chris Gayle tried to consolidate the innings with the quick stand but Kohli too departed in the…Continue
