The supporters of Deccan Chargers hope that they have seen the worst of the defeats for their team in the tournament and further hope that the Chargers could still play and make it to the Semis. That's all Hope. A quote by Rick Page states that "Hope is not a Strategy". Personally, I do not see Chargers going beyond Semi Finals with this Yo-Yo performance after registering four dominating and consecutive victories. When they beat Rajasthan Royals by a huge margin on a slow wicket, it gave the impression that they have re-grouped and the intensity on the field was fantastic. But that is how it works, isnt it? When Bangladesh had the Indian top order nailed in the 2007 World Cup preliminary group match, they looked all over the place and the mighty Indian team chocked to death. In fact they packed their bags home with a self consoling victory against Bermuda. If this is the same dynamics and playing pattern within the Deccan Chargers Camp, then the fans and supporters are in for a shock by the end of coming week.
Winning is about carrying on the momentum game by game. One team that is able to do that pretty well are the Delhi DareDevils. From the jaws of defeat they snatched a victory handed over to them by the opposition. Sehwag and Co were more shocked than Gilly and Co that night. Within sight of 23 runs with 7 wickets in hand, one wouldnt ever see a loss of this nature. Deccan Chargers have shown how to clnically conduct harakiri and lose from that position. It was like reaching the finish line but refusing to cross over and allowing the number 2 guy to walk past you! My blog site is named after the "uncertainties" this game brings out. This loss by Deccan Chargers is not something about uncertainty, but more of a foolish approach to the game. Darren Lehmann now states that Chargers must re-group. I think this call comes in a little too late. I have said this in my blog much ahead of this situation. I say Lehmann is late because with 3 games to go, even one loss might take away the hope of making it to the Semis. Deccan Chargers have only opened the chances for others to get in after this loss against Delhi DareDevils. Those 2 points will cost the team and poor cricketing by themselves is to blame. Gilly in his post match interview said there were positives though with his team coming close to victory and buying a improbable defeat. Well, another loss, you might have not have positive feelings Gilly, rest assured. I am sure we would see Herche back. The bowling department needs to be strenghtened. What is also important is to decide who would bowl overs 17-20. This is where our Chargers are going wrong and eventually chasing larger totals than they could.
Rajasthan Royals performance last night against the Mumbaikars was amazing. Similarly Royal Challengers defeating CSK was a result that has changed the way the league standing looks. These results raises hopes for other teams. Anything could happen. Except KKR who have been hopeless as always and with Delhi sitting pretty cool on the top, the remaining 3 semi final spots are still close to call.
The team with mental toughness and the one that shows character will sail forward. The coming week would be fierce and intense on the field.
