With the increasing popularity of t20 cricket, cricketing countries have  started their own league. The IPL has become quite successful and has already been through 8 seasons. And now, we will be seeing the inaugural season of PSL (Pakistan Super League), a franchise-basaed T20 tournament that will be held in Doha in February 2016.

The T20 tournament has gained enough interest, so much so that it has roped in prominent players including Chris Gayle. His aggent confirmed that he has signed the pre-draft agreement a few days back. Other players joining the league will include Kieron Pollard, Dwayne Brave and, Darren Sammy, Sunil Narine and Owais Shah. The PCB (Pakistan Cricket Board) are looking for at least 25 overseas players to join the tournament.

"Obviously top guns like Gayle are stars who attract fans," Najam Sethi, head of PCB Executive committee, said. "They lend commercial value, showbiz glitz and tournament credibility. They are also sources of inspiration and emulation for our budding players."

The premier edition of PSL will consist of five franchise based teams from Lahore, Karachi, Peshawar, Quetta and Islamabad. The prize money of for the winner of this tournament will be $1 million. The duration of the tournament will be from February 4th to 24th, which will feature 24 matches.

The initial venue for PSL was meant to be played in UAE, because Pakistan had been playing their international matches. However, the Emirates Cricket Board will be hosting the Master Champions League, which forces the PCB to look for an alternative venue.

To gain traction, the PCB roped in former captains and players Ramiz Raja and Wasim Akram as ambassadors for the first season. Though both players had signed with the MCL, they felt their priorities were first for their countries. Says Akram, "I'm up for leaving anything for Pakistan cricket. I don't want to earn money by playing cricket but instead want to give something back to my nation. We signed with MCL and had to work for them, but my priority is to help our country's cause."

The logo of the PSL will be revealed during a ceremony on September 20.
