We are all aware of the Duckworth-Lewis (D/L) method for calculating rain shortened ODI and T20 matches.
I see a serious flaw in it as there is no mention of wickets in the method. The target and the overs are shortened but the number of players playing remains the same. Thereby the players are less under pressure and could reveal a better performance. This way the team batting second is always with an added advantage over the first.
If due to any reason if the match is shortened to 25 overs, I believe the team batting second should be given only 5 (or maximum 6) players to bat to make the game equal.
If a team that put up a low score batting first has the only way to win is by bowling out all its opponents than I suppose their plans would certainly be washed away if there was any rain in between the match !!
With the current setup and ODI simply becomes like a T20 with D/L in effect, where as we know wickets in ODI's are far far more important than wickets in T20.
Correct me if I am wrong.
I would like to know the views of the people in here on this.
